Pop Quiz: Was this photo taken outside of a Pizza Hut or Taco Bell?

Yes, I remember the first time I heard “Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell” by Das Racist, and it was one of those jaw-dropping moments of disbelief where I, as the listener, was unsure of whether or not what I just heard was ‘for real’ aka not a spoof, but a legitimate musical offering.  Whether or not I was able to answer that question on the spot is forgivable, as now the answer is plain and clear, Das Racist is truly legit.

My second personal interaction with Das Racist came at one of the most magical moments in my life.  No, not my first CD, concert, fan meet-and-greet or celebrity spotting.  The moment I speak of is when, duh duh duh, Spotify was released in the USA!

I’ll be blunt.  I’m now a paying Spotify subscriber, and have been since October, 2011, and the thing I miss the most after making the upgrade (besides the monthly withdrawal from my checking account) is the commercials.

I know, you’re probably like, “what? commercials?  you freak.” but seriously, Spotify had some of the most creative commercials I’d ever willingly sat through (September, 2011 specifically, I’m looking your direction) and there was one I keenly remember for Das Racist’s newest offering, Relax, which after one or two listens, got me to listen to the album.  It was pretty epic.  Several tracks even made it into my “Best of 2011” playlist.

Check that out right here if you’re on Spotify.

The listening was more than enjoyable and I can safely prophesize that Das Racist’s upcoming performance at Cargo @ CommRow this Tuesday (April 3rd, 9PM) will be one of our favorites thus far into 2012.  Join us on the third floor of CommRow and come say hi to me (Brian) up-front.  I’ll be the guy with the big lens hangin’ out.  Get in on the action ahead of time and tell your friends using this fancy Facebook Event Page!
