Week In Review: December 11-17

I just can’t stop coming up with ‘firsts’ for this growing entity known as I Shoot Reno.  Since there’s always so much excitement in the air around here, I thought it would be perfect timing to roll out the newest addition to the site here in December as a way of preparing for the amped-up new year.  Hence I Shoot Reno’s ‘Week In Review: December 11-17’.

Much like any other, this particular week in December was a thrill to be a part of here in Reno.  In terms of curated content on IShootReno.com, photos from NoBody Really’s opening set for Souls Of Mischief at The Alley kicked things off, along with a Reno Santa Crawl recap for those spirited stumblers who are looking to help piece their evening back together.

Instagram postings include: Anchor Brewing – Our Special Ale 2011, I Shoot Reno’s feature in a digital Knitting Factory ad alongside I-80, photo love from @1937scott, audiophilia, an absolutely delicious (and hidden from the menu) platillo de carnitas at Lupita’s Mexican Restaurant, lens flare and a self portrait with our chihuahua.

As an added bonus for this first edition of ‘Week In Review’ on IShootReno.com, I’ve included my (failed) attempt at personally capturing my 15 minutes of fame.  Why fail?  1) Private Property.  2) I’m not even sure my photo was still in rotation when this was taken (2011-12-17).  Check it out below … and stay tuned for more from I Shoot Reno!

Upcoming: Big Head Todd & The Monsters with Toots & The Maytals @ Knitting Factory

Big Head Todd & The Monsters with Toots & The Maytals @ Knitting Factory 2011-06-14

The year is 1986.  The place, Colorado.  Todd Park Mohr and band mates begin forming what, in 1987, would be known as the rock band Big Head Todd & The Monsters.

They’ve come a long way since the late 80’s, including the platinum selling 1993 album, Sister Sweetly, and collaborations with David Z. (Prince), Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads), John Lee Hooker, Bernie Worrell (P-Funk) and more.  Heck, they’ve even created music per request of Space Shuttle Discovery and have had their song, “Blue Sky” used as Senator Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign song.

The long and short is that Big Head Todd & The Monsters are back with a new album, Rocksteady, which captures a more Caribbean/Roots/Jamaican vibe … and lends itself quite well to touring with legendary reggae group, Toots & The Maytals; a group which formed in the early 60’s, has been reincarnated at least three times, have taken home a Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2005 (True Love) and have rubbed elbows with early reggae/ska legends, C.S. Dodd (Studio One), The Skatalites, The Wailers, Prince Buster as well as more contemporary stars such as Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Trey Anastasio, No Doubt, Ben Harper, The Roots and Shaggy.
