Today's Inspiration

•Darkness Helps Us All To Shine•.To be blunt, the feeling of shooting the Milky Way for the first time is utterly indescribable. First, there's the anticipation of waiting for the moon to enter the right phase, ensuring the sky will be dark and the stars bright. Then one must locate a spot far enough away from city light pollution to avoid a heavy haze and color cast. Throw in scaling a 7k ft. tall mountain in pitch black with strong winds and what you have here is a night for the record books. OK, well maybe I "cheated" a bit and drove up the mountain, but once out of the vehicle those winds showed no mercy. One misplaced step and tumbling down you go, camera and all. .When our small group of three reached the spot (thanks so much for scouting, Steve!), we were very lucky to find a compelling foreground of mountain peaks and light trails of vehicles coming up and down Kingsbury Grade. Like I said, the winds were strong and our footing loose, and our spot just happened to be amongst a mini graveyard and shrine to those who had passed this way before us. Making sure to be respectful of our surroundings and staying safely planted on the ground were paramount objectives, while framing everything up was the icing on the cake..For this shot, I had my tripod firmly set in place and took a dozen exposures moving up, down and over the foreground, mountain peaks and sky. The exposures were combined and touched up in Lightroom and a bit of further editing was performed in the Google Nik Collection to achieve the final result..In retrospect I'm beyond thankful for everyone and everything in my life that came together to make this shot possible, as this is an experience that I'll truly never forget!. 2016-07-09 12:55AM️Nikon D750 ️Rokinon 14mm️ISO 4000 ️f/2.8 ️30 sec
