•Welcome to My Pad•.Earlier in the evening of a friend's summer solstice party this June, I had found this small pond filled with lily pads and could hear the croaking of a small frog who had made it's home there. It was receiving a lot of attention from other partygoers at the time so I decided to come back a little later in the evening to try and capture the scene..By the time everyone had moved on to the indoor laser show / jam session and the outdoor burn barrel / musical tesla coil performance, our little friend here was ready to chill with me for a minute. I had taken several different shots, trying best to use the available natural light, and was able to open my shutter for 30 straight seconds without him moving very much, creating this image. He was somewhat vocal too, and when zoomed in you should be able to see just a bit of movement / expansion of his throat. .Every time I look back to this image I can't help but take a deep breath and feel super relaxed… like hangin' out at a good friend's pad, just talking and enjoying each other's company. •Feel the Burn•.How can it be that I've never photographed a burn barrel before?! I feel like I've stood around dozens of these things before and only recently was close enough to one with a camera in-hand. Yes, it's a fairly simple subject, but one that is filled with the awesome power to create and destroy all at once!.This specific burn barrel helped welcome summer '16 with a ton of dried sagebrush that was cleared for a friend's solstice party and provided a central hub for party-goers that evening. I was first lured in by the dancing flames and found much intrigue watching the light and shadows play through the unique holes seen along the bottom third. I took a bunch of different types of shots of this blazing steel cylinder, including ones that seemed to completely freeze the flame in action, but long exposure and low contrast just felt right for this specific image. If you look closely, you can still see the ghost of marshmallows past; which served their purpose quite well, sandwiched between honey grahams and gooey milk chocolate bars..For those who caught yesterday's post… this was about 45 minutes prior to my lens and camera body doing a stage dive into the rocks and dirt, then dusting themselves off and getting back out there for more. I'd like to use this space to thank everyone for showing your continued support, and to welcome the many new friends I've made in the last few weeks.
