Bucky, The Nevada Club

Nevada and neon go hand-in-hand, right?  Here we are treated to many of the greatest, albeit now defunct collector pieces of neon that have ever graced the desert sands of Northern and Southern Nevada alike.  From the once tallest building in Reno (Mapes Hotel) to Parkers Western Wear where John Wayne once shopped in the mid 70′s, this collection of true Nevadan history, as curated by Will Durham, tells a story of moments and memories rolled by like a tumbleweed across I-80 and premonitions of perhaps where the state is headed in the remainder of the 21st century.

If anything, photographing these historic landmarks has shown me that there is a real history and culture to this state that I might have otherwise overlooked as a transplant.  What I’ve been searching for in terms of semi-historic relevance has finally been realized in the form of blissful glowing light emanating from the edges of the third floor Feature Gallery of the Nevada Museum of Art.  Thank you Reno, you’ve made this Wisconsin boy feel at home.
